How to create a local travel resource & use it for direct bookings!

Resorts and hotels need to create a new marketing strategy that makes them more valuable in the eyes of Google. 

For years websites (big & small) have been taking away direct bookings by taking over search results. 

Sites like TripAdvisor and Hotels dot com take over direct searches while smaller blogs are taking away revenue based searches like weddings and vow renewals. 

If resorts or tourism boards don’t act quick there won’t be any more direct bookings or at best it won’t get better and just slowly decline for the years to come. 

A content marketing solution for more direct bookings:

Years ago I started a site called I Want To Travel To.  The site shares fun things to do in and around the location of the Sandos Resorts.  For years I have promoted their vacation club and was sending couples on vacation.  Many of them did not know Cancun and so I created a blog to share fun things nearby.  

The site has grown over the years and now has hundreds of pages and is linked to over 10,000 YouTube videos!  There are endless possibilities of small bits of traffic that can be bought or ranked for simply and cheaply.  Let’s have a look at how to catch some indirect traffic.

Let’s look at the phrase: “Day Of The Dead”.  This phrase is not directly related to any resort or hotel and yet it could drive an impressive amount of web traffic directly to them.  This search by itself gets over 600,000 searches a month!

Video #1: Keyword research & sub niches!

No matter what niche you are in there are sub niches.  In the handyman business your would have things like toilet repair and gutter cleaning.  If you are a resort or hotel you could write about fun things to do or even a monkey or bird you have on resort. 

So I found a keyword phrase that has a slew of volume and so let’s target it in a new series.  The phrase is “Day Of The Dead” and so we are going to create a web page from scratch after some basic keyword research and see where we fall in the Google directory.  This project will take several months and will be an ongoing project right into 2021. 

So I hired a writer to write the first article based on a basic keyword list.  We are shooting for several thousand words and probably 25 sub headers.  Maybe something like 50 things to know about the Day Of The Dead!

Mentioned in this video is my I Want To Travel To website and its 300 plus pages of content.  I also mention and will be publishing the article we are creating to All Inclusive Vacation & Travel

If resorts want more direct bookings they are going to have to produce content and hire someone like me before they lose this market too. 

Just like Hotels.com and TripAdvisor have taken over the direct booking market for stays, the wedding market is going away soon too.  The it will be all the smaller niches and hotels and resorts will be screwed and have no direct bookings.

Video #2: Let's create an article to catch some of this traffic!

In video #2, I will be creating an article via a writer on Fiverr.  I will have this writer create an article that is around 2000 words.  We will then together review that article and see what needs to be done before publishing it.

Video #3: Let's look at a local tourism website with hundreds of pages!

In video #3, I share with you the overall idea of a serious content marketing idea.  Create a massive website that supports tourism and helps keep your interests on top of Google Search.

Now I won’t link to this tourism company simply because I have 90 pages of content in the Daytona Beach market myself.  I want that content to maybe someday beat them or at least be number 2.

I also run off on a rant about another small niche that could also be valuable.  There is over 8,000 in search volume related to Mayan Myths!  That means someone slick could catch that traffic and turn it into revenue!

I think you can see that there are a bunch of ways to grab small traffic streams and return direct bookings to your hotel or resort.

Out Of The Gate Results (June 11th to July 11th 2020):

So the first month’s data is almost in.  I have done little to promote the original post and just let Google do it’s thing.  Over the next month this list will grow from 12 to probably over 50.  It will take several months to get this post to generate any real traffic, but that is the cost of admission!

clip of sjd stats for last 12 monthsSmallJobsDenver.com at it’s peak was pulling 7 plus calls a day!  I built this site and created close to 100 pages and 125 videos.  I created this content over a year and a half.  

It took about 6 months of blogging and about 1/3 of that content to get a lot of leads consistently.  Today, I am still getting calls from this service.  The site is up but the phone number was taken down a year ago.

In the image above you can see the traffic Google is still sending over a year after I closed the business due to family illness.  SEO and content marketing works so good you almost can’t turn it off without shutting down the entire website.

Video 3: Discover Thomas Bowman Handyman service of Port Orange Florida

clip of TBH stats for last 6 monthsThomasBowmanHandyman.com was started October 15, 2019 and as of today (5/31/2020) is starting to take over it’s prime keyword phrases.  I have directly targeted these keyword phrases:  Port Orange Handyman and Daytona Beach Handyman.  What I mean is that I am showing on the first page of Google for those searches.

The site and service is also currently shut down since we are in quarantine due to the Corona Virus.  The image above shows the stats for the last 6 months (new business) and even though those numbers aren’t big, the site is doing incredible well in the Google Search results.

In the next videos let’s look at some pages that I think I can move up in the search results and that get major business changing traffic!

Video 4: Let's look at Search Console & use that data to make some money

monthly searches for gutter cleaningIn this local SEO strategy video, I show you how to use Search Console and find your existing web pages that have a shot of bringing in cash.  Search Console is the most important tool you can use for your sites SEO.  Without it you will be completely blind.

As we look through data for the content we have already created we see that Google has already ranked every page on my site.  Google tells me what keyword phrase I show up for and where I show up for it.  This is sweet data that shows us what phrases can bring traffic and we just need to go to that page and edit it.

Websites should be fluid if you are going to win through content marketing you need to edit and re-edit and re-edit.  So as an example let’s pick a keyword phrase that gets a lot of impressions and see how we can get that traffic by adjusting our current indexed web page.  

Let’s pick my gutter cleaning page.  I had previously built a page for gutter cleaning and repair services.  Google is saying that they get thousands of (over 1,200) consumers a month searching for this service.  Some months it’s even higher at over 1,700!

That’s big money and were going to take some home!

Video 5: Let's edit that page and quadruple it's traffic in a short time!

Let’s see how we can get a bunch of new traffic to this page by reinforcing the content on it.  All we need to do is see what phrases and words Google is associating to my page and make sure you have them in your content.  

You should consider a longer article rather than a shorter one.  Consider creating a bunch of sections to break up the content into points or aspects of this service niche.

So let’s go through those keywords that Google gives us and consolidate the list.  Now let’s rewrite that pages content and make sure we add the words and phrases here in this list.

So what did you think about that video?  Do you see how a strategist can find little niches that can turn into revenue?  There is over 2000 searches every month of the year just sitting there waiting for someone to find it.  So how does someone go about catching some of this traffic?

How To Catch This Traffic

So obviously to catch this traffic you would have to be Sandos Resorts or a Sandos Vendor.  Since I have a side business that markets the Sandos Resorts Vacation Promotion this is perfect traffic for me to add to my site.  So I built this page to target consumers searching for Sandals in Mexico.  https://allinclusivevacationandtravel.com/was-it-sandos-or-sandals-resort/

So in order for me or Sandos to get this traffic there would have to be some form of detailed content that Google would want to share.  So I created a video, pictures and written word.  I then build some basic links from the videos to the site.  I also use a service that drips these articles across dozens of social networks.

Now that the base landing page, pics and videos are done lets add to it here on this page.  To add more links and credible content I will just create several more videos and over the next few weeks and I will report back as to the results I get.
